1 Point Perspective Drawings

I drew my massing elements from 3 different angles. I drew each one using simplified rectilinear forms first, and then represented them using the organic and cylindrical forms.

Beginning Exp 2

As part of the studio activities for Week 5, I produced 2 versions of a 'cross'. Both of these elements will form the basis for the architecture faculty's new building on UNSW Lower Campus.

I preferred the second version. I therefore moved this version into Lumion to begin experimenting with rendering materials.

Changes to Staircase #1

I made several changes to the 'shell' staircase while developing the model for this submission. I reduced the height of the staircase so that it was adapted to the terrain. This also made the staircase more functional while keeping its dramatic nature and look.

I made the staircase's handrail bronze in colour, similar to the wooden benchtops of the workshop spaces. I also changed the marble tread texture from a SketchUp material to one of the materials I drew in the 36 textures studio activity.

Furniture

While modelling in SketchUp, I developed components which are similar to the furniture designed by Trent Jansen. A SketchUp model of his Tidal side table is pictured below, along with a photo of the real piece.

I also designed lights, the inspiration for which all came from a light designed by Trent Jansen. They were also based off the theme of 'interconnecting' and create harmony between the 3 different spaces. These are shown in the image below.

36 Textures

The table below corresponds to the textures in each box above.

I selected three of these textures ('marbled', 'weathered', and 'fibrous') to be further developed for mapping onto surfaces in my SketchUp model. These are pictured at a larger size below.

Staircase #2 for EXP1

Inspiration for this Staircase Design
The above link takes you to 10 seconds of an existing YouTube video, as part of the homework given in the studio activities for Week 3.

This staircase was based on one of the sections and plans I submitted previously, pictured again below:

I changed the edges of this tread so that it would fit with the theme of the upper workshop: 'interconnecting'. This then became the staircase which was placed to connect the ground plane to the underground workshop. This staircase is pictured below in the following screenshots of my SketchUp model.

SketchUp Model: Perspective Shots

The screenshots below show my developed SketchUp Model, with three complete and furnished spaces. The upper space, which began with a section drawing based on connected puzzle pieces, transformed into something else once I began modelling in SketchUp. Instead of 'interconnecting' puzzle pieces, I created interconnecting geometric shapes as part of the exterior of the upper space.

The ground plane and underground space remained as per the original section, based on the noun 'shell'.

The upper space is designed as a workshop for Trent Jansen, and the underground workshop is designed for Mountain & Moon.

In developing my model, I took care to have recurring elements throughout. For example, the glass skylights in the upper space are reminiscent of the glass, shell-like roof of the lower building.

A light designed especially for Trent Jansen's workshop. This light is designed in keeping with the theme of 'interconnecting' in mind, as well as the geometry and lines of the upper workshop. The interlocking shapes of different sizes are repeated throughout furnishing elements in the three planes of this model.
