Introductory Work - Week 1

My Creative Work

I produced this drawing for an architecture course which I took in 2019 (ARCH1121). We were asked to draw this particular building - Alberti's San Andrea basilica. To represent the play of light and shadow, a key feature and consideration in the design of churches at the time, I chose to use white pencil and pen on black paper.

Great Architecture

A photo I took in January 2020 from the Alhambra palace in Spain. This palace shows classic examples of Moorish and Islamic architecture. I loved the symmetry of the palaces' buildings and the intricate geometric designs I saw throughout, particularly in the details of the ceramic tiling on the walls of many of the buildings.

Original Photograph

A photo I took of a flower market. I appreciated the beauty of the different colours and the way they had been arranged to have a colour gradient as you look across the row from right to left. This arrangement of flowers to be grouped by colour is immediately pleasing to the eye, which is what drew me to take this photo. Further, the rounded windows at the front of the building, visible in the background of the image, provide a pleasing contrast against the sharper, straight lines in the remainder of the space.
